Tried this place on the advice of a friend. Not too busy at 830 on a Sunday but filled up fast. Service: every single person I interacted with was friendly and smiling and helpful. They were well staffed. Didn't have to wait long for anything. Ambiance: loved the kitchy 50s feel Food: i had biscuits and gravy...not the best, but better than average. I'm kinda picky about my biscuits & gravy. I'll give them a 6/10. Husband had the red velvet pancake. He gave it a 6 as well. Coffee was a 9. Menu looked interesting. Will try again if in town.

My wife and I have eaten breakfast here a few times over the past month. (Most recently because the place we planned to eat at was closed on Mondays.) The Anna's House website claims that they're "saving the world from ordinary breakfast". Unfortunately, the breakfasts we've had there have been ordinary, and a little disappointing. They also describe their restaurants as having a "retro diner" style, which is a very accurate description. The interior is fun and diner-like--A+ on that! But the food and service are also diner-like--kinda bleh. Outside of a few dessert breakfast options (red velvet pancakes with buttercream frosting?), the dishes are largely what you might make as home... but not as good. The servers are friendly, but seem busy and aren't very attentive. We've tried a variety of dishes: biscuits and gravy, creme brûlée french toast, breakfast sandwich, western omelet, hammy scramble, french toast. Some have been better than others and were decent enough, but we wouldn't order any of them again. The sandwich in particular was a low spot, and the eggs seem to be cooked rather quickly because they're not at all fluffy. But Anna's House does seem popular. Every time we've been in, it's been bustling with people. Even on weekday mornings, we've had a brief wait for a table.

Recently had breakfast at Anna's House TWICE during a weekend road trip from Chicago to Traverse City. Don't be turned off by the long wait - its worth it - especially if you are in need of gluten free options which aren't plentiful in this area! The diner itself is very clean, adorably decorated and the staff is super friendly. We almost didn't mind the 45 minute wait since the check-in process was so easy & we were able to snag a seat in the waiting area. As for the food and coffee itself, really good at decent prices and a ton of options! Gluten free diners rejoice: ask for a gluten free menu that is packed with options from your standard omelette options to gluten free pancake options and you can even do the sandwiches since they have GF bread! I had the gluten free red velvet pancakes TWICE and they were amazing with a super tasty cream frosting. Their french press coffee is also excellent and a ton of other coffee/juice options.

This place was so cute. Very inconspicuous from the road... looks like it might be in an old Arby's or Wendy's building. They've done a great job converting the space. I had this giant immaculate french toast. It was made out of corn bread and it was amazing. Probably the wrong choice for a single person's breakfast, but would make an amazing shared dessert. Really really good, but hard to eat more than 1/3 on your own. The service was good and the wait short. Against all odds, they'll figure out a way to serve you iced coffee if you ask for it and that warms my heart.

Amazing!!! I was so excited to try this place and it was better than expected!! The menu is amazingly creative. As breakfast lovers we were in heaven! I got the twlight French toast which was soooo good but HUGE just to let you know! I had tons to take home. The boyfriend got corned beef eggs Benedict and it was amazing also. Coffee was great and the service was super fast and very friendly! Can't wait to go back someday!

No two coffee mugs are the same in this place. Awesome. Top notch customer service here! Red velvet pancakes are a must try!

It's with sadness that I give Anna's a mediocre review. Though that's what the food is - mediocre. After boycotting for two years I decided to try it again this week. I'm very unimpressed with nearly everything about it. The béchamel on the breakfast lasagna was the most flavorless glop that I've ever tasted. The onions in the potatoes were truly tasteless. And to add insult, I asked *twice* if there was bread in it and was assured that there wasn't. Lies. I found a solid layer of bread in the bottom and when I asked the server about it she halfheartedly apologized for misleading me - twice. Worse still is the decor. It looks like a Swedish hipster dollhouse decorated by an Etsy fanatic. Trust me, this look will look quite dated in a year or two. I wish that they gave as much attention to developing the flavor of their food as they do to their decor. Overall impression - overpriced bland food at a restaurant that tries too hard to be trendy while neglecting the actual quality of the food they serve.

Amazing. Great selection of GF items. Everything was delicious. The Becker sandwich, the Cook's sandwich, The Gf Red velvet pancakes...and kids' meals were outstanding!!

I love Anna's house! Food is always excellent but can be a little spendy. You will not go home hungry!

I'm not sure what else needs to be said. It won "Best Breakfast in Michigan", and for good reason. Very unique and diverse menu. Fair prices. Very good food. I've eaten at both the Plainfield and Beltline locations, and they are very comparable in food and decor and servic. The Plainfield location's decor has been updated to match Beltline. They are always clean, friendly, and with very good service. I've eaten there several times over the past three years, and it really is a very good breakfast place (although there are other places I prefer in GR still). I'm not sure if I'm ordering incorrectly, but I've never been really blown away by anything. It is all good, and consistently good, but not as great nor transcendent as I would anticipate "Best Breakfast in Michigan" to be. I'll definitely go back, and many times. They have a very good thing going, and I don't know of anywhere with as unique of a breakfast menu or as diverse of a range of items to please nearly everyone's palate.

Love love love this place for breakfast and lunch. Cute decor and never disappointed with anything. Great coffee too

This is one of my go to breakfast places in Grand Rapids. The food is good no matter what you get. They recently remodeled the place, making it look a lot nicer then it was. Of all the Annas house locations this is the smallest so it will get busy and normally had a wait on the weekend anytime after 9 am. They have a new feature where they can text you when your table is done which is nice. I've ordered most things on the menu and haven't had many complaints. Sometimea the service can be a little less then stellar but that is normally when they are jam packed. The chicken and waffles is one of my favorites! I am yet to have lunch here as even if I got later in the day I can't not order the breakfast.

    (5)
  • Jared T.

Seriously the best food I've had in a long time. Had the chicken & waffles and they were incredible! Great place, if I'm ever back in the area I will make sure I eat here!

Best breakfast in Michigan? I think not, not even the best breakfast on Plainfield, real food café is much better (okay so technically it's on northland dr.). My son had to gourmet hot chocolate, might be the best for half bucks ever spent, he thought it was pretty good. Coffee is just average. The American potatoes are just boiled red potatoes they put on the grill for a few minutes, no flavor at all, stay away from the baked French toast, it is not good, doughy and full of lemon zest. The biscuits and gravy were decent enough, the eggs are cooked just fine, The wait staff are all nice, everything, including getting the bill, all seem to take a lot longer than you would expect. 31 bucks with tip, for me and my Son to eat breakfast seemed a little pricey as well.

  • Deanna B.

Many gluten free options clearly labeled on the menu. Very good flavor. Unusual choices not easily found when eating a gluten free.

I had heard many amazing things about Anna's House before, but a breakfast place is just another breakfast place, right? Boy, I couldn't have been more wrong. I think this probably sounds silly, but the hash browns are REAL potatoes. I'm not sure if they cut them in house or order them in (my guess would be in house) but you can tell they aren't that processed in a factory and very obviously have never been frozen. They actually taste like potatoes! Shocking - right? The rest of my breakfast was delicious, and the hazelnut coffee was amazing. My friend got chicken and waffles which he raved about. There was a maple crème that was on top of it that he loved. My only qualm is that they don't have a location closer to downtown! We live downtown and it's rare we get up that way, but I know we will be making the trip there again. Well worth it! Keep doing what you guys are doing!!!!

  • Suie W.

I have been looking for chicken and waffle for a while in Grand Rapids so I was really excited when I saw it on the menu. However it was pretty disappointing. The waffle was okay but the chicken was really tiny and over fried so it was pretty tough even though the flavor was not bad. The other items are not bad but still not "woah that's tasty".

    (3)
  • Erin K.

I wish I could give this 5 stars. My husbands meal, the Irish was amazing! My meal on the other hand was disappointing. I ordered the chicken and waffles. The chicken was dry and the waffle was cold. Our server was not helpful, we had to ask another server for a refill on our drinks, and for our check. While our server was talking to other customers, she ignored us. I'm giving them 2 stars only because my husbands meal was good. Other them that I'd only give them 1.

    (2)
  • Jen S.

I remember now why I haven't been here in 2 years. 40 minutes for a basic breakfast to come out of the kitchen and it was cold. Maybe I'll try again in a few more years. The most common phrase overhead from the wait staff was "I'm sorry" as mistake after mistake was delivered to nearby tables.

    (2)
  • Robb W.

Love this place, but when you have a wait, but watchful. A party of 2 who arrived way after our party of 3 was just seated ahead of us at a table for 4.

  • Diane T.

There are so many breakfast and brunch options in GR, I may have easily overlooked this place. I will never settle for dry eggs and hungover topknot company at Wolfgang's again. Anna's House can get pretty crowded, but the wait is never unbearable and the staff are all so pleasant. We've been here so many times but I think I had a near religious experience with my brunch last weekend. I ordered (off menu) Sweet Piggy which has since been removed (BRING BACK THE CREPES PLS) + a Malted Belgian Waffle on the side. The crepes are smothered in a sweet gravy and inside are 2 sausage links (PIGGIES), perfect scrambles and swiss cheese. The hash browns are perfect. The waffles are always hot and fluffy. I inhaled it all! I think I scared my boyfriend and friends. Bring your stretchy pants. I even helped polish off some Red Velvet Pancakes covered in buttercream frosting. (Let's be real, it's just cake). They have fresh orange juice and tons of savory breakfast sandwiches as well! The Ricker (mmm, bacon, avocado, and eggs on a bagel) is pretty tasty! Kaelyn has been our server several times and she's awesome. Brunch/"devil's meal" can be a real bitch when tables expect non-stop coffee refills or kids are screaming, but the servers here rock. They are currently making changes and updating their look but I WISH they will bring back their awesome crepes and specials... there was a Smoked Salmon Hash that was also to die for. PLEASE don't commercialize this place too much!

If you're looking for a $3.99 bacon and eggs place, keep driving. If you want unique breakfasts made from quality ingredients, then GO HERE IMMEDIATELY! Friendly service; bright, cheery decor; and the best breakfast I've had in GR. Order the fresh-squeezed OJ with your meal for sure. Everyone in my family from vegetarians to kids is always thrilled.

We tried Anna's house last week and after reading the reviews I ordered the twilight french toast. After ordering, the wait took way too long. The twilight french toast was mehhhh...I don't think it lived up to the hype. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great either

  • Cici F.

Saving the world from ordinary breakfast my butt! That's all they serve there now! I went in for breakfast looking to order one of their amazing specials, only to find they don't exist anymore. Sad to see them changing something that worked so well for so long! I'd recommend trying real food or Cheri inn if you want a good breakfast!

    (1)
  • Christina M.

Servers don't look professional. It's hard to figure out if they are guests or working. Food was decent. Prices are kinda high

Best place to work ever! Customers are always so amazing and co workers are the best!!

    (5)
  • Heidi M.

I read about this being the best breakfast in GR but apparently the person that wrote that was missing their taste buds. The breakfast lasagna was far too salty and greasy. The eggs benedict was NOTHING compared to the beautiful Cherie Inn version because the sauce was blah and flavorless. I cannot remember the name of the item but we had something that was like french toast or bread pudding and it was pure goo, far too sweet nothing special. We spent WAY too much money and walked out feeling pretty let down.

I understand their signage shows they have the greatest breakfast in Michigan, but it may be just hype. This place was packed on a Sunday morning, which is to be expected, no big deal. They sat us and using some folding chairs to squeeze my party of 6 in. We ordered our drinks, and the young girls who are hostesses, bussers, drink runners, and food runners were very quick. Sadly, quite a few of them wear their hair down. One of the people in my party sent back her chocolate milk after seeing the girl's hair go into her drink before she gave it to her. Kinda picky, but weird. There is one woman who walks around with a tablet taking orders. I'm sure this goes quickly with smaller tables, but there was a lot of akward silence while she punched in everyone's order. Our wait was very long for our food. The young girls kept coffee and water filled during our wait. When our food did come out, I thought my bananas foster french toast was good (it was made out of croissants which was awesome!). However, my side of bacon was gray/black and looked very very strange. It appears they might have cooked it in the microwave at some point, but I'm not sure. It tasted weird and I wasn't a fan. The corned beef hash was homemade, but it didn't really strike me as super delicious #1 in the state-level either. My husband had a pulled pork sandiwch on a pretzel bun, but he said the meat was tough and didn't like it much. Our bill came to over $30, which is pretty expensive for breakfast, and my husband didn't even get any sides or anything to accompany his sandwich. I think there are better options in the Grand Rapids area- I won't be going back.

Food is good. The wait is very long! The atmosphere is new and clean and the demand for an upscale breakfast is unbelievable. The Managment and waitresses are above average

Quite impressive - tasty coffee, good vegetarian options, and delicious cinnamon rolls. I will for sure return here the next time I am in GR.

  • James H.

Everything here was great! The service was super friendly, and quick. We had to wait a little bit for a table but well worth the wait! They had a diverse and creative menu with so many options that sounded delicious. We ended up getting the Hippe Hash and the Candied Pecans and Bananas French Toast both were genuinely great meals. Would highly recommend and definitely coming back to try something new.

We have heard a lot about this place so we thought we'd check it out. We went on a Saturday morning about 10 and it was still quite busy but since there was only 2 of us, we got seated very quickly. The pancakes were delicious!! I ordered 2 but definitely only needed 1. My husband was pleased that they had Mello Yello. He ordered the breakfast burrito. It was HUGE and excellent he said. We thought the prices were decent. We both ate for $22 and that included a cinnamon roll to go (which I actually don't recommend because they look like they are made to eat hot/right away). Our service was fine. We will go back!

    (5)
  • Makinni K.

The food is great here, however the wait is a little too long. My family and I went here after here it had best breakfast in Michigan expecting the best. We were not let down in the food part of it however, we were left wait for over an hour to get seated. It is also kind of crammed space wise. Although the wait was longer than we had hoped, the food was delicious! (I suggest the red velvet pancakes) I defiantly recommend this restaurant unless you are cramped for time.

The new improved Anna's has it going on. (New owners?) The decor is bright and the service sharp. I still love the Hippie Hash. Lunch and breakfast have been great. I'm a huge fan.

My husband and I recently went up north for a weekend trip to see what Grand Rapids had to offer. We consider ourselves big foodies and Anna's House did not disappoint. We split two breakfast meals: twilight french toast and the corned beef hash skillet. Our taste buds savored every bite. Oh my goodness was that a delicious meal. Hands down the best breakfast he and I have ever eaten! Can't wait to come up with a reason to return to MI. We have decided we'll always stop there whenever passing through the area (even if we have to take 50 mile detour or something...haha). Please do yourself a favor and check this place out! :)

  • Cory E.

I've only been here for breakfast but have loved everything I have ordered. This place is insanely busy on weekend mornings so plan to wait especially on Sunday. They have a huge assortment of gluten free options and are very conscientious about food prep. They even offer gluten free red velvet pancakes.

    (5)
  • Craig S.

It is most definitely the best breakfast in Michigan! The reviewers that don't think so are the same people that are impossible to please and complain and whine about everything. The Twilight French Toast was absolutely amazing as well as the Prime Rib Hash. I definitely will be coming back again and again.

Best bit of advice I can give you is go early. Because of the publicity/hype from being named "Best Breakfast Joint" in a Grand Rapids Press article it is usually busy in prime times on a weekend and before work on weekdays. We went at 7:10am one Sunday...they open at 7am. There were already 6 tables of people, but at least there were plenty others open. When we left a little after 8am there was not an open table but the wait would not be long. By 9am I am sure the wait would be significant. The food? Very good. Homemade, upscale, unique, different. Basically they have gone out of their way to take breakfast to the next level and not just be a truck stop with Eggs, Breakfast Meat and Hashbrowns. Not that there is anything wrong with Eggs, Breakfast Meat and Hashbrowns....in fact I love a place that makes a good simple farmers breakfast at a fair price(Peppermill in Rockford & Standale, Red Geranium in Kentwood). But I can appreciate where Anna's is going by taking things to the next level. My wife had the French Toast made with Bailey's Sauce. It was good but very rich/heavy. I had one of their omelets that was stuffed with Bacon, Sausage and their home made corn beef hash and cheddar cheese. It was GREAT and just the right size. Not stupidly thick and huge like some places but thin, light egg stuffed with meat and cheese. Just the right size. I ate it all, was not stuffed and not wanting for more. The service was very good with lots of young ladies keeping coffee topped off and clearing tables as soon as they are open. Nothing turns me off more than to walk into a breakfast place that is skimping on help and see tables with dirty dishes that have not been collected and cleared. If you like a plain simple breakfast you probably wont appreciate what they are trying to do here and probably won't like the prices ($30 with tip for my wife and I). But if you like a place that dares to be different, dares to push the envelope with fresh, homemade ingredients and charges what it takes to go beyond the basic fare then you should try Anna's House. We will go again, but it wouldn't be our every week breakfast place. Don't be turned off by the fact the place isn't much to look at from the outside. It was a repurposed restaurant building that has been there since the 60s or 70s and kind of looks run down. But it is nice inside and the food and service are top notch.

Not the best in GR to me. Ate there a couple of weeks ago and was very disappointed. good service but the meal was cold. Wife had scrambled eggs and potato's, potato's were cold, I had biscuits and gravy and the gravy was cold. Food taste was ok but I like mine at least warm. Good coffee is about all I can say.

  • Steve N.

Excellent food, super friendly staff. I had the Adonis, really good but couldn't really taste the feta. The cinnamon roll was great but be careful, it's about the size of a dinner plate. We waited quite a while for our food because it's always super busy. The only big knock on the place is that they refused to allow us to use their wifi. They explained that if they have out their password, people wouldn't leave. But it would've been nice to have something to do while we waited an hour for our food.

Get the gluten free red velvet pancake with extra butter cream frosting. To die for.

Stopped into Anna's recently; we are new to the area and noticed the parking lot was always full. Currently looking for our "go to" breakfast spot - and this seemed like a good start. All around - we walked away pleased with our meal. Unfortunately, I stopped short of 5 stars simply because (for a breakfast) this prices are simply too high. I realize Anna's has a breakfast they can call "their own" and it was tasty - but on average $8-10 for plate - you simply can find other locations that hold their weight and cost much less. First thing - this is a busy location so plan to possibly weight. But, it is worth hanging in there if you can. I like the fact that Anna's has a policy they will not seat your party if not everyone is present. This shows a keen sense to keep the wait down and the tables turning over - since again - they are quite busy. My first impression was a bit of worry - as they were a little slow on reaching our table to take an order. Granted - they were on top of getting drink orders going. But, then it took several minutes to be introduced to our wait staff. I realize they are busy - but I felt maybe they needed to have more wait staff on hand to cover how busy there were. Needless to say - after a small wait - they came along and we ordered. Each of us had something a bit different; Eggs Benedict, Ham and Cheese Omelet, the standard "big" breakfast. There is a really broad menu with unique items - a couple of which (the Twilight French Toast and Biscuits and Gravy) I would love to go back and try. We eyed other patrons meals and saw a lot of things that looked appetizing. My Benedict was cooked to perfection and was one of the better I have had recently. Perfectly poached egg and a nice Hollandaise sauce. Their American Fries were actually red potatoes that was a nice change and they had nice flavor and cook to them. The others in my party had similar sentiment of being pleased with their meal. I tried some of the pancakes they had a nice flavor that was not just out of the box (like you sometimes get in generic restaurants). So again - the food is great. My only question being the price. I just can't get behind breakfast plates that are pushing $10. Lunch or dinner - not an issue. But, Anna's is just a place you will frequent "once in a while" for a nice change of pace and good quality meal - otherwise it will put a hit in your pocket book (for 3 Adult s and one Child - with nothing in regards to drinks except for water - our bill was $40 after tip). In conclusion - great food - busy atmosphere - a bit on the pricy side. But - I will go back again.

I am a breakfast lover. When you put on your sign that you are voted best breakfast in Michigan...you have my attention! Sadly for Anna's House, along with my attention you also get my full ire if you are not the best. The owners may just want to stick with the under promise, over achieve model. Yes, it was a solid breakfast. I had the Denver omelet with gravy on top. It was tasty, nice portion, nice cheese distribution...everything I do look for in an omelet, was the best omelet in Michigan...negative. Service was good...like the ipad POS system...waitress pleasant, kept my drink full. Best breakfast service in Michigan...negative. The bill for myself and my companion was about 25 bucks...a bit steep but I didn't feel like I got taken by any means. This would have been a 4 star review to tell you the truth if the sign hadn't been so braggadocios. I guess the lesson is, don't get my taste buds ready for the best breakfast in Michigan and not deliver it.

I stopped here for brunch after hearing they have GR's best breakfast. I was sadly disappointed... I walked in and was able to find seating right away since it was a week day. I know they often have lines on weekends. We were offered water/ a drink as soon as we sat down, unfortunately this person could not take our food order as it took almost 20 minutes for our server to arrive. I tried to give her credit as it looked like she was busy with other situations. I ordered their breakfast lasagna, which is like an egg casserole. I was so excited to try it but when it arrived it was ice cold throughout like they pulled it out of the refrigerator and placed it on the plate. I was able to stop another server to send it back to be warmed up and was still hoping for the best! When it came back out it was still cold, the top was warm but still cold throughout. I took a couple of bites pushed it to the side. I was a little annoyed that the server never stopped back to see how it was. By this time my Dad was done with his meal so I flagged someone else down to request the bill. They asked if my meal was ok after reheating when I asked for the bill I said it was still cold when it came back out, it was still cold. They apologized but didn't offer to reheat or a discount on the bill. As, I mentioned I was having brunch with my Dad who said his meal was subpar. I had very high hopes for my meal but left disappointed. I hope that this meal was a rare occasion but I don't think I will be back to try again.

I have been to Anna's House a lot over the years and it has always been great but recently they have started to remodel the outside and dinning room and it looks fantastic! I have always loved how bright the inside was and now with the new colors and paintings it is even more up beat and welcoming. I would recommend any of their omelettes but the Adonis is a special favorite of mine. Also, don't leave without trying the fresh squeezed orange juice and red velvet pancakes! They are absolutely AMAZING!

Came in for breakfast today with some lady friends from College. Every month we pick a different restaurant. Not anymore, Annas House it is. Had a great meal and excellent service. Jane is a great addition to your staff. Thank you.

A must when I'm in the GR area! Top notch food & the most attentive staff! The fresh squeezed o.j. is pricey but worth it! (I like to order mine w/a glass of ice) The specials are always deelish, as is everything on the menu. You'll have to wait on a busy weekend, but it's well worth it.

You never get a bad meal here, we eat at Anna's usually once a month and have tried many things, between my husband and myself this is our go to breakfast place,

specials are very good, bit of a wait. Hostesses will not seat incomplete parties until all arrive (a good thing for the people already in line). Food was fast and hot once seated. The owner/ manager was very friendly and professional.

  • Pauline S.

My friend had a basic breakfast of meat, eggs and hash browns and loved it: sausage patty charred outside, but moist and tasty, hash browns the shredded kind and eggs over easy. My surf and turf Benedict was not good: dry tasteless crab cake, chewy steak and glutinous hollandaise. Combination of dry, greasy and nasty with over cooked eggs. So 2 stars only but I might give it one more opportunity because of my friend's enjoyment and I'm interested to try the twilight French toast. But frankly not hopeful! On return, upgraded to 3 stars as the basc breakfast is excellent, I recommend the hash browns with onions. I'd like to give 4 stars but the specials should be more reliable for that.

Ive been here like three times and have gotten lunch all three times. And its always good and there breakfast menu looks good and when the meals come out they look yummy! Gets busy and sometimes you have to wait. But I wish it was open later. And there menu is a little pricey for a "cafe" so thats why I dont come here that often. But its a good eat!!

  • Mary M.

The Hippie Hash is fantastic! Yummy and filling. I always get it with an egg over easy. Wait staff, owners, everyone is so friendly. A great neighborhood restaurant.

  • Steve M.

Quite possibly the worst breakfast ever. They brag about being voted Michigan's best breakfast place...wrong! Here is a list of the problems: 1) very slow service (maybe the waitresses are high(?). I ordered eggs over med. bacon and hasbrowns...typical breakfast which takes 10 min. in other breakfast joints, this took 1/2 an hour. 2) ordered hash browns received some other terrible potato concoction. 3) bacon was so burned it was inedible. Bottom line Anna's House is Michigans worst breakfast place!

Usually, I like my breakfast served hot. Especially if it is supposed to be hot, like oatmeal. I don't like that mine sat around for at least 15 minutes before making it to the table. Should have sent it back. Good ideas on the menu, but poor execution.

Wow! To say we were disappointed would be an understatement. Is there a new cook in the kitchen? My wife ordered Twilight French toast; I ordered the hash. The only positive thing to say about both was they came out of the kitchen warm. My hash was a poor substitute for the real thing. It was lacking in flavor and corned beef ! It's a small portion for nine bucks! After experiencing a sour, not-so-fresh taste of the French toast, my wife swapped it for the potato pancakes. That, too, failed to deliver. We ate here for the first time several weeks ago, and we raved about it to our friends. Can't do it this time around. On a positive note: our waitress waived the charge on the French toast .

So went there today. Have to say we usually have way better service every other time we went but today was horrible. First our waitress never told us what the specials where I guess we had to go back to the front and read the jumbled sign. That is a personal pet peeve not anything bad about the waitress. We get our food and my daughters Georges special had a burnt biscuit was missing the eggs and toast. My sons bacon was so overcooked it was like bark. My wife's meal was missing. One waitress said the cook forgot it ours said she forgot to put it in. Also when I was trying to get our waitresses attention she was too busy getting her hair played with by the another waitress. When I said it bothered me that my wife's meal was late and all the other things missing another waitress or manager no idea but she gave me attitude because I wanted us all to eat together. I hope the Owners read this because we had a horrible service and we usually go there a couple times a month.

Fairly decent breakfast with several menu options. Pancakes the size of Texas! Good service with decent prices.

Excellent Breakfast! A bit of a wait to get in but oh so worth the wait!! Twilight French Toast excellent! Couldn't finish it all, gigantic piece! Bananas Foster French Toast recommend also..

How the mighty hath fallen... My husband and I met here for lunch a lot during the work week, but we've given up. I heard the manager isn't here anymore, which I think is going to really hurt their business - I wouldn't be surprised if the place closes eventually. On our last (and I mean our LAST) visit here, service was inexcusably slow. We waited a long time for our food, and when I finally was able to stop our waitress to ask if our food was ready yet, she said, "It might be" and stood there. I had to say, "Well, do you think you could check?" Then my husband's food came out and wasn't hot, but he had to get back to work and the slow service was running us late, so he didn't bother to send it back. The people seated behind us had the same waitress and kept trying to catch her, too, because they had ordered something like a cinnamon roll, and after they'd been sitting there since before my husband and I got there, ordered, and were waiting, their one dish wasn't out yet and they wanted to cancel and leave. I gave them one more chance and got a sandwich (wrap) to go. It was awful, and used to be my favorite thing on the menu. The cook left it on the grill too long, so the outside was burned, and everything inside had gotten so hot it was a mushy mess. I won't be back.

Had pancakes, burger and omelet, all pretty good. It's a cute little greasy spoon with a happy waitstaff and a nice sized menu. We enjoyed our good, not the best in the world, but a top two in GR for sure.

This was our monthly breakfast place! We used to go here once a month and enjoy the variety and the great service. But has been lacking since so highly reviewed as a breakfast place in West Michigan. My favorites include the breakfast burrito, California omelette (bacon, cream cheese, tomato and avocado), and whatever scramble is on the special board. I do find the prices a little on the high side price wise. 2 meals and 2 coffees is usually about $26 including tip.

From what I understand there is a new owner/chef/lady in charge, and I like it. Anna's house is one of my parents go to places for breakfast (impressive mostly because they eat out EVERY morning). So needless to say I have been here quite a few times over the last few years. Before I was never overly impressed by what I ordered but the specials were good and often included avocado, and that makes everything better. On my last visit I got the breakfast lasagna. It was one of those meals where you get the plate and your brain is like "OH NO! There is only a limited amount of this on my plate and I know I am going to want more...more!!!". My first bite confirmed my fears, this was something I could eat all day every day and still want more of. It was layers of egg, cheese, sun dried tomatoes, spinach and gooey love covered in more cheese. I hesitated before giving my dad a bite because I wanted it all to myself. The ladies working here are that special brand of waitress that put in hard work for their tips. They aren't the girls who rely on their looks or being overly sweet, they are real and do their jobs well. I like them.

I have to wonder if their success wasn't detrimental yo their business. Before I could come and enjoy an awesome plate of breakfast, friendly staff and reasonable prices. This last visit... One in our party didn't get their food untill everyone else was almost finished and when it did finally show up the biscuits were burnt. I would have complained but the server never returned until she brought the check and threw it on the table. Not Even to refill my coffee cup. We were seated near the counter and could hear the owner and wait staff gossiping and talking about braiding hair of all things, but I guess that was more important than customer service. Maybe the staff there needs to remember why they were voted best breakfast in GR before they find them selves voted into a whole other category.

Great place for breakfast!! The staff is always friendly and even though there always seems to b e a wait when I go the line moves pretty quickly. I have gone & made my own skillet meal, tried the specials, had an ordinary omelet, etc & every time the food is yummy! If you want a good breakfast served quickly this is the place to go!

In Grand Rapids for the weekend, decided to check out what the local Yelpers were into. Read the reviews about this little gem and decided to check it out. (Thanks Yelpers!!!) The other members in my party immediately decided what they wanted for breakfast but it took me several minutes to decide. There were so many yummy choices to choose from including an entire wipe board filled with the days specialities and another with specialty pancakes, I think 12 or 13 different kinds. I decided to have the breakfast lasagna with hash browns and raisin toast. C'est ci bon! Very unique, very tasty...I could've used more spinach though. Everyone else seemed to just like their food but I was impressed. The staff was friendly and efficient. Our bill was right around $30 for three people. Family friendly atmosphere. Very casual. Plenty of parking.

Went to this restaurant based on the best breakfast in Michigan review. This was one of the worst breakfast experiences ever. After waiting about 40 minutes for our order when the restaurant was not busy. My wife ordered their chicken and waffles. The chicken was burned and you could see it when they brought it from the kitchen. She ordered eggs over medium and they came back scrambled. I ordered a omelet and all it seemed to have was an overabundance of meat. There was very little cheese and seemed as if I was just eating meat. The waitress never came back to check on us until we were done so she could leave the bill. Was too busy talking to the customers at the counter I guess. This was one of the worst restaurants I have been to for breakfast, ever.

The regular menu is deceiving, it's the specials you want to try! They are creative and taste amazing! The staff is on top of things, there's usually quite a few people working at once, so you're never really without someone to help you with your needs. I highly recommend trying the Breakfast lasagna!!! Simply amazing! They have specials directed at all kinds of eater.. Everything from the meat and potato's eater to the health conscious eater. EVEN Vegetarian!!! If you're in town, and around, you should defiantly check them out!!

Really great breakfast. Had the cinnamon roll and the red velvet pancake which we shared at our table of six. Delicious! Then had the Cowboy Up breakfast pizza. Yum! Slightly slow service but still friendly and accurate.

I would have given it 5 stars, but our food took over 30 minutes to be brought to us, which seems kind of long for breakfast fare. However, it was well worth the wait. The menu is amazing, the specials are even better. If you are looking for a breakfast place that has the same old, same old, and/or looking for a breakfast place that has some really, really unique dishes, this is your place. We are foodies who love unique, so we were in breakfast menu Heaven. We plan to go back many times- it was so hard to choose what we wanted, and even after we ordered, we wanted to change our minds as we saw other tables food coming out with overflowing plates of delicious goodness.

I rarely give something 5 stars but I just love this place. I read someone saying the food is 'standard' but I HIGHLY disagree. If you want standard breakfast food go to New Beginnings and you'll see what I mean. The food here is innovative and delicious. I get Cooks' Sandwich. It's a sausage patty with an egg, cheddar, cream cheese and scallions all sandwiched in between toasted sourdough. YUM! They also have interesting specials and a great selection. The decor is clean and refreshing and the staff is friendly. The only thing I'm not a fan of is the coffee. Other than that I love this place!

First visit. Lot of interesting dishes but I'm lo-carb, so I had Anna's Omelet. Breakfast isn't hard, but people rave over portion size, and this omelet was good sized. However, American omelets reach a tipping point where the copious filling is cold in the middle, and the cheese isn't melted... Which describes mine. Had 3 cups of coffee and each one tasted different. Don't know how that happened. That being said, service was good and I'll come back for banana foster's french toast and red velvet pancakes.

My family and friends love the excellent food and superb service we get at Annas house. It is our favorite breakfast restaurant in Grand Rapids. Since the new manager took over the food is amazing, for example: The Bananas Fosters French Toast or the Zeus ( Greek Crepe) , Breakfast Lasagna, Cheesy Hash Brown Casserole, Red Skin American Fries, I Carumba Mexican Scramble, Healthy Oatmeal with raisins dried cherries and toasted coconut served with Vanilla Soy Milk, Sugar Bread and the largest fresh baked Cinnamon Rolls with homemade icing. the food was always pretty good. But now , I would say it is exceptionally magnificent. The wait staff is on top of their game. They know every ones name and are always smiling. They really seem to love there job.

I am not sure how this place was awarded best breakfast in Michigan with such outstanding competition in the area. We dined for breakfast on a Sunday morning and had only a short wait. The specials on the board looked wonderful but my husband is an avid fan of Hash Benedict and has it anywhere we go. I opted for the Western Scramble because I was torn between biscuits and gravy or an omelet and this seemed the best of both worlds. Our food arrived and the first thing my husband noticed was his hollandaise sauce, it was a large portion but tasted nothing like the buttery dish is supposed to. Instead it tasted like a packet of chicken gravy had been mixed with, and when we asked they said that was how there sauce always was. My husband opted to not eat it! My dish was just ok, nothing special to write home about, my hashbrowns were dark brown on the top and bottom and raw on the inside (clearly dumped out of a package onto a griddle and then served) We also brought our children and the kids meal prices and drinks were outrageous (4 dollars for french toast sticks ONLY and 2 dollars for milk). I would love to sit down and pick the brain of the mlive reviewer who sampled this restaurant. I say pass this place up and drive to 5 mile (about 3 mintues north of this place) and enjoy real food cafe where the food is hot, fresh, and homemade!

I tried this restaurant for the first time on a Saturday morning. Place was busy but didn't have to wait for a table. My first impression when 2 people stopped by the table to make sure our beverage order had been taken, was that finally a locally owned place that takes pride in customer service.......it was downhill from here. I ordered coffee and got 1/2 a cup of coffee-more was being made. Waitress took a while to take our order but once order was taken food came out pretty fast. Food was good except the toast was very burned. Waitress dropped off food, noted I was out of my 1/2 cup of coffee and said she'd return. She did return once the meal was over. Then I had to ask for more coffee. She never checked back after food was dropped off either. I thought the price of the food was fine and food delivery quick. Wait staff is another story. Based on the service I wouldn't go back.

Other reviewers have mentioned that they weren't initially sure if Anna's was open for business; while the sign says "Breakfast all Day", they define "All Day" as 6am-2pm. I've driven by plenty of times in the evening and seen an empty parking lot, so I totally understand the confusion. We stopped in on Saturday morning, and it was quite busy (and obviously open for business). An important note for newcomers: if there's a wait, sign yourself in. You're not being ignored--they just don't have the staff (or the room) for a dedicated "host" position. The environment is very casual. The layout is interesting; based on just the interior, it almost feels like someone (rather rapidly) turned their living room into a diner. It's clean and comfortable, though, and that's what is important. The food was quite good--we both had omelets. I had the Farmer's omelet, which comes with sausage gravy on top. It's a very good gravy..but it was a LOT of food. Prices do seem a little high; nothing drastic. We spent just over $10 per person. My only gripe? The menu has a lot of nostalgic Pepsi imagery on it. But they serve Coke products. I certainly didn't need the calories of a Mountain Dew with that breakfast, but I felt a little disappointed.

Best breakfast in north GR! My wife had the Pork Carnitas with Huevos Rancheros. The meat was tender and delicious with a heavenly Ranchero sauce. I had the Breakfast Lasagna. It was richly textured and delicious. I made a comment to our server (Rean) that I was tempted by the Sweet Piggy specialty. She brought a sample and I was so glad she did. A crepe filled with a perfectly cooked sausage link, scrambled eggs and melted cheddar cheese topped with a sweet maple cream. The savory/sweet blend is amazing. All levels of taste and service were high. (...as I assume naysayer Steve was when he accused the waitresses.) Arrive early as this well kept north side secret is out. Highly Recommended!!

This is my favorite (diner) breakfast joint in the GR. It's in a strip mall, but the interior is bright and clean, and there are no TVs! The food is fresh, plentiful and there are some really great omelettes and scrambles. The coffee is hot and strong, and although the place stays packed on the weekends, they move folks through pretty quickly. Bring a paper, sign in, and wait for 10+ to be seated.

Anna's has been a good experience the last few times I've been, so I'm upgrading my review to four stars. They added some tofu offerings too! My last review... I've been to Anna's 3 or 4 times now. It was great the first time, but since then it's been just "good". Yesterday morning I ordered an egg white veggie omelet and dry raisin toast. The toast was thick and tasty. The omelet had a generous amount of egg whites (for $1 more than regular), but I would have loved to see three times the amount of veggies. When I cut into the omelet, a pool of oil (butter?) came flooding out, which kind of defeated the purpose of ordering an egg white omelet. It was hot and tasted good though.

One of the best places in town to get breakfast. The environment isn't anything to write home about, but the food is REALLY good. I had a breakfast scramble that was spectacular. They have a promo right now for wacky Wednesday, where you flip a coin to see if you get half off your bill.

Good place for breakfast. Coffee is good, hot and plentiful. I usually get some sort of omlette. It's alway very good, and the breakfast is big enough to keep me full until dinner.

Good place to eat! Omelettes pricey but the standard breakfast is good! Getting in (from the east) and out (heading east) of the parking lot is downright dangerous. When I first discovered Anna's, I thought they were out of business. Without cars int he parking lot, you would hardly know they are open for business.
